The Prism Refraction Angle Calculator calculates the refraction angle, which depends on the angle of incidence, the angle of deviation and the angle of emergence.

What is refraction?

When light passes through a prism, it undergoes refraction, causing the light to change direction based on the geometry and refractive index of the prism material. The amount and angle of bending depend on the refractive index of the prism material, which determines how much the light slows down inside the prism compared to air.

What affects the refraction angle?

The refraction angle is equation to the sum of the angle of incidence and angle of emergence, minus the angle of deviation.

  • Angle of incidence: the angle between the normal to the incident surface and Incident ray.
  • Angle of Deviation: the angle by which the incident light ray is deviated or bent inside the prism. It is the angle between the incident ray and the emergent ray
